Keeping Your Car Maintained

Recently, my spouse got into his car to go to work. Before he even made it down our long driveway, his car began making frightening sounds. Afraid to continue driving the vehicle to work, my husband decided to stay home for the day. After investigating the car, he traveled to an auto parts store in my vehicle. He purchased transmission fluid to put in his problematic automobile. Thankfully, the transmission fluid helped the car’s performance. Besides transmission fluid, you can find many other types of items to help you maintain your vehicle at an auto parts store. On this blog, I hope you will discover some of the most sought after items available at auto parts stores today. Enjoy!

4 Tips To Improve Your Classic Chevy's Performance with Modern EFI Upgrades

by Renee Miles

If you have a classic Chevy that is 30 years old or more, it likely does not have a modern fuel injection system. Instead, these cars use carburetors to provide fuel to the engine. Today, modern EFI upgrade kits can be used to convert classics to EFI fuel delivery systems as well as update some of the earliest fuel injection systems with modern technology. Here are some tips that will help improve the performance of your classic Chevy when you use an EFI upgrade conversion kit:

1. Avoid Engine Pressure Losses by Not Removing Too Many Parts

When converting mechanical systems on engines, there is a risk of causing a loss of pressure. With EFI kits, you may need to remove engine-mounted fuel pumps and other parts. When removing these parts, make sure you follow the kit manufacturer instructions and leave parts in place that should not be removed.

2. Install Dual Fuel Lines of the Right Size for Your Kit and Model Car

If you have an existing carburetor, you will usually have one fuel line that goes from your tank to the engine because a return line is not needed. With fuel injection systems, you need to have the fuel line and a return line. In addition, the line needs to be the correct size for your engine and the type of conversion kit you are using. Your kit should come with instructions on what size to use, so be sure to follow those guidelines.

3. Boost Power and Choose the Right Throttle Body for Your Needs

There are many power-boosting systems used on high-performance cars, which may include nitrous oxide boosting, blowers, or super chargers. When shopping for an EFI kit, you want to make sure that you select one that is designed for the type of power-boosting system you use.

4. Fuel Pressure and the Needs of Your EFI Conversion Kit

Fuel injection systems are engineered to provide engines with the right amount of fuel quickly. This means that they require more fuel pressure than what your typical stock fuel pump will provide. Some conversion kits come complete with a new fuel pump, while others may not include the pump. If the pump is not included, you will want to make sure that you install one that provides adequate fuel pressure for your EFI system.

These are some tips that will help you get the most out of your EFI conversion upgrades to improve the performance of your classic. Contact a classic Chevy parts service like i5 CHEVY for help with installation and tuning of your EFI injection system.
